FAQ

Questions, answered simply

What people usually ask us on the first call.

The product

Is this built for opticals specifically, or general retail?

For opticals only. Prescriptions are built in — right and left eye, sphere, cylinder, axis and addition — and lenses are stocked by power, not as one number. General shop software gets both of these wrong.

Does it handle contact lenses as well as spectacles?

Yes. Contact-lens prescriptions are saved separately from glasses prescriptions, on the same customer record.

Can it print invoices, job cards and barcode labels?

Yes — invoices, lab job cards, receipts and barcode labels, sent straight to the right printer with no print pop-up.

Do you cover wholesale as well as the retail counter?

Yes. Trade customers get their own prices and accounts, next to purchase orders and supplier payments. A retail order can be turned into a wholesale one.

Can staff be stopped from seeing profit figures?

Yes — hiding profit is one switch. There are over seventy permissions, grouped into roles you set up yourself.

Your data and where it runs

Where is our data kept?

On-Premise, your business database is on your own computer. On Cloud, it is stored in its own private database on our server. Access is restricted to your business and the permissions you assign.

What happens if the internet goes down?

On-Premise: nothing — OptiLyn is on your own computer and keeps working. On Cloud: you need internet, like any online system.

Can one branch see figures for the others?

This applies on Cloud, where branches share one system. A person sees other branches only if their role allows it — it is off by default. On-Premise, each branch is separate anyway.

How are backups handled?

On-Premise, backups run automatically and are checked, so a failed one is caught early. They stay on your computer, so we recommend keeping a separate copy too. On Cloud, we take care of backups.

Can we start On-Premise and move to Cloud later?

Yes. It is the same software either way, so we move your data across — nothing is re-entered. If you expect to move, tell us early and we will plan for it.

Pricing and licensing

How does On-Premise pricing work?

Choose ONE of two ways to pay. Upfront + yearly: pay upfront (Core PKR 80,000, Pro PKR 120,000), then annual support from the 2nd year at 25% of that (Core PKR 20,000, Pro PKR 30,000). Monthly: no upfront cost, just Core PKR 4,500 or Pro PKR 7,500 a month, with updates and support included.

What does the annual support fee cover?

Updates and support. It is 25% of the upfront price, for both packages and every add-on. It is not a monthly price paid yearly. With Monthly there is no separate fee — it is already included.

Should I choose Pro, or Core with add-ons?

If you want both WhatsApp and Owner Dashboards, choose Pro — it costs less than adding both to Core. If you only need one of them, choose Core and add that one.

Can On-Premise branches share stock and reports?

No. On-Premise, each branch runs its own copy with its own data, so stock, customers and reports stay separate. That is why an extra On-Premise branch costs half the package price. If you want all branches connected — one stock view, combined reports — choose Cloud.

Why is Cloud priced differently?

Cloud is a service: our server, backups, updates, and access from any branch, home or the mobile app, in every package. The 1st branch costs Core PKR 6,500 or Pro PKR 9,500 a month. Extra branches cost less. Core: PKR 2,500 each for the 2nd to 4th, 2,000 for the 5th to 7th, 1,500 from the 8th. Pro: PKR 4,500, 4,000 and 3,500. Pay monthly, or by annual prepay: pay for 10 months, use for 12.

Can we keep our data on our own computer and still use OptiLyn from home or a phone?

Yes — that is the Remote Access + Mobile App add-on for On-Premise. Your business database stays on your own computer; we add a secure way in, so you can open OptiLyn from home or in the OptiLyn mobile app. Cloud already includes this.

Does the WhatsApp add-on include message charges?

It includes the software, templates and chat inbox. Meta's per-conversation charges are billed at cost on your WhatsApp Business account.

Does Biometric Attendance include the device?

No. The price covers the software for one branch. Salaries are already part of every package; this add-on reads attendance from the device and prepares each person's monthly salary from it.

Is there a setup fee?

No. Installation, moving your data from your current system and training your staff are included in every package. The only extras are hardware you choose to buy, such as a biometric device or a barcode printer.

Can we switch plans later?

Yes. You can move from Core to Pro at any time. On-Premise, you can move from Monthly to upfront + yearly — whatever you paid in the last twelve months is adjusted in the upfront price. You can also move from On-Premise to Cloud; we move your data across and nothing is re-entered.

Is the price per user?

No. Pricing is per branch, and staff logins are unlimited and free — adding a cashier costs nothing. Extra branches cost less than the first one.

What happens if we stop paying monthly?

OptiLyn stops at the end of the month you stop paying. Your data is yours: we give you a full copy. If you want to keep using it On-Premise, you can switch to upfront + yearly at any time.

Do we need to buy new hardware?

No. OptiLyn runs well on the computers most shops already have. If one of yours is too old, we will tell you on the first call.

Getting started and support

How long does moving from our current system take?

We move your customers, prescriptions, stock and balances for you and check them against your figures, while you keep using your old system. You switch over once everything matches.

Is data migration and training charged separately?

No. Moving your data and training your staff are included.

Who do we call when something breaks?

The team that built it. You ask for help from inside OptiLyn, and your version and screen are sent automatically. No call centre.

How do we raise a support ticket?

From inside OptiLyn, which sends your version and screen automatically — or through our support portal.
